Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using the Hanlexon platform (“Service”) operated by Hanlexon (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

Hanlexon is an AI-powered educational platform for learning Chinese (Mandarin). The Service provides interactive study tools, adaptive learning algorithms, AI-powered tutoring, voice conversation practice, pronunciation coaching, spaced repetition review, printable worksheets, HSK exam preparation, classroom management, and progress tracking features.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account, unless your account is created by a school, teacher, or parent acting on your behalf. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

Teachers, parents, and institutional administrators may create and manage accounts for students. Such management must be used solely for legitimate educational purposes.

3. Free and Paid Services

Free Tier. Certain features of the Service are available at no charge. We reserve the right to modify the features included in the free tier at any time.

Paid Subscriptions. Premium features may be available through paid subscription plans. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) through our third-party payment processor, Stripe, Inc. You authorize us to charge your selected payment method for the applicable subscription fees.

Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial billing periods.

Price Changes. We may adjust subscription pricing with at least thirty (30) days’ advance notice to existing subscribers. Continued use after the effective date of a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

4. AI-Powered Features

The Service includes features powered by artificial intelligence, including but not limited to the AI tutor, voice conversation, pronunciation coaching, and content generation. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated content is provided for educational purposes and may contain inaccuracies. You should verify important information independently.
• Your interactions with AI features (text and audio input) may be processed by third-party AI service providers. We do not transmit your personal identity to these providers.
• We may use aggregated, de-identified usage data from AI features to improve the Service.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other user accounts or to our systems;
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure;
• Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to extract data from the Service;
• Share your account credentials with third parties;
• Use classroom or institutional features to collect student data for non-educational purposes;
• Upload or distribute content that is harmful, abusive, or infringes on the rights of others.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, software, original content, and trademarks, is the property of Hanlexon and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from the Service without our prior written consent.

Your Content. Content you create using the Service (such as worksheets, vocabulary lists, and study materials) is yours to use for personal and educational purposes. You retain ownership of your content and may edit or delete it at any time.

Community Sharing. Study materials you create on the Service — including vocabulary lists and reading materials — are shared with the Hanlexon learning community. Other users may search for, view, and study from your materials on a read-only basis. Only you (the creator) may edit or delete your materials. Your personal identity (name, email) is not displayed with shared materials. By creating study materials on the Service, you agree to this sharing model. If you do not wish a particular material to be visible to others, you may delete it.

Feedback. By submitting feedback, suggestions, or other content to us, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, modify, and incorporate such content to improve the Service.

7. Educational Use and Compliance

For use in educational institutions:

• Teachers and administrators agree to use student data solely for educational purposes;
• Schools acting as agents of parents under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) must obtain appropriate consent for students under 13;
• Institutional users agree to comply with applicable education privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and COPPA.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOME WILL BE ACHIEVED.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HANLEXON AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Hanlexon and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to other users or to the Service. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately, and we will handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Service at least thirty (30) days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
