How do I set up a class on Hanlexon?

Sign up as a teacher, go to Classroom, and click 'Create Class.' Give it a name and HSK level. You'll get a join code that students enter to join your class. You can create multiple classes for different levels or sections.

What feedback do students get on their work?

When students do writing, translation or conversation work, Prof Hanlexon gives feedback on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Teachers see each student's work and results.

Can parents see their child's progress?

Yes. Parents can create a parent account and link it to their child's student account. They see a dashboard with study time, characters learned, assignment completion, and mastery progress — without being able to modify the student's work.

Creating a Class

After signing up with a teacher account, go to Classroom in the navigation menu. Click Create Class, give it a name (e.g., "Chinese 101 - Fall 2026"), and select the target HSK level. You'll receive a join code — share this with your students so they can join with one click.

You can create multiple classes for different sections or levels. Each class has its own assignment list and progress dashboard.

Assigning Homework

Homework can be assigned from any skill tool. Open a reading passage, writing prompt, translation exercise, or conversation topic, then use Share → Assign to Class. You can set:

Due date — students see the deadline on their home page.
Target class — assign to one or multiple classes.
Instructions — add custom directions or notes.

Students receive the assignment on their daily plan and can complete it from any device. The moment you assign, each student is notified — it appears at the top of their Today plan flagged “from your teacher,” with a bell notification, and an email to students (and linked parents) who have email updates on. Assigning to a class with no students yet is blocked, so work never goes nowhere.

Viewing Results

Your teacher dashboard shows assignment completion at a glance: who submitted, when, and how they scored. For each submission you can see:

The student's original work (writing text, conversation transcript, translation)
Detailed feedback on grammar, vocabulary, and accuracy
A score breakdown by category

Tracking Student Progress

The Class Progress view shows each student's:

Characters mastered — how many characters are in long-term memory vs. still being learned.
Study streak — consecutive days of activity.
Skill breakdown — reading, writing, listening, and speaking scores.
Assignment history — all completed and pending work.

Use this data to identify students who are falling behind or ready to advance.

Parent Access

Parents can create a parent account and link it to their child's student account by entering the child's email. For privacy, the child confirms the request from their own account (they'll see a prompt on their home page) — once confirmed, the parent dashboard shows study time, characters learned, and assignment status, giving parents visibility without the ability to modify student work. Parents receive optional weekly summary emails.
